Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:
Unless you are planting in a straight line, as you might for hedges or edging, space your plants in a staggered or zig-zag pattern for a more interesting and naturalistic look:

The plant looks sturdy and full.
I don't understand some of these revues. I have never received a bad or dead plant from Great Gardens. I am a very experienced gardener and when you order a plant in the hot summers if you do not give them the right care or plant sooner than later, they could die. If you plant them in extreme heat, they could die. The plants I received were packaged very well and when I open the box, I always immediately water them. Then, I usually let them sit for a day or two to acclimate to the environment. Coneflowers don't like wet feet so if you overwater them or they will die. People tend to over water in the heat, but newly planted perennials need to be watered more often the first week, but not too much depending on the plant. Lavender doesn't like too much water, better to let soil dry out. In hot conditions I leave the plants in the shade and water carefully, maybe planting in the evening. Anytime I had a plant die it was usually my mistake. I hope people are fair in their criticism. Thank you, Great gardens, for your beautiful plants.
