Description
Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:
Unless you are planting in a straight line, as you might for hedges or edging, space your plants in a staggered or zig-zag pattern for a more interesting and naturalistic look:

Learn how to grow and care for hydrangeas like a pro! Discover different types of hydrangeas, when it's best to prune hydrangeas, how to change colored blooms, why they may be wilting, and everything else you need to know.
I ordered three hydrangeas: Wee Bit Grumpy, Ruby Slippers, and Limelight. They were each planted in their own 9 cubic foot planter containing organic garden soil amended with vermiculite, perlite, peat moss, black cow & worm castings. After planting, the soil was covered with newspapers and then 2" of mulch. They get 2 hours of direct sunlight a day and 4 more of dappled sunlight. Temperatures range from 60 to 80 degrees. PH is slightly acid. I use a moisture meter every other day to determine when they need to be watered. At 6 weeks, I will fertilize them with fish emulsion.
I am disappointed with how small they all are. The Limelight is the smallet and slowest grower of the three (about the size of a baseball now. For awhile, I thought it was going to die but it is growing now. Last year I bought hydrangeas from Walmart and they were several feet bigger than this one when I bought them (about the same cost) and grew rapidly afterwards.
If these plants grow strong and healthy over the summer, I will be pleased with the purchase. I have a long history with hydrangeas in Georgia and they all thrived but this is Florida and is not as hospitable for their success.
Received on time! Healthy, full plants packaged with care! Looking forward to seeing them grow!
My plant arrived well packed and very healthy.
The plants appeared healthy and are growing beautifully. Best place to buy plants! Thank you.
I'm still waiting for these to grow some.
