More Information

Description Small but mighty, Petite Knock Out® rose packs everything you love about the original Knock Out rose into a tiny, space-saving shrub. This little beauty reaches an incredible – and useful – 18" tall and wide. Neat and sweet flower buds burst open with small, perfectly-formed red roses all season long, and the tidy foliage effortlessly fends off powdery mildew and black spot. Just imagine the possibilities: containers, rock gardens, herb gardens, party favors… the list goes on. It's the biggest little thing to happen to roses since the original Knock Out! Details Botanical name: Rosa 'Meibenbino'
Patent #: USPP 30,811
Common name: Rose
Zone: 4 - 9
Sun exposure: Full sun (> 6 hours sun)
Height x width: 18" x 18"
Flower color: Red
Foliage color: Green
Season of interest: Summer-fall
Bloom time: summer, fall
Features: Space savers, heat tolerant, container plants, best for beginners
Uses: Accent, border, container gardening, cottage gardening, herb gardens, rock gardens, ornamental, specimen
How To Grow Soil: Roses thrive in rich, well-drained soil. While they're not picky about pH, neutral to slightly acidic conditions are best. Once they are established, most roses can tolerate some dryness; however, flowering will decrease or even stop if they become stressed.
Light: Sun (> 6 hours sun). This encourages the best flower production while also aiding in disease resistance.
Water: For best results, roses should get about an inch of water each week, through rainfall or irrigation. This can be difficult to gauge, but if you avoid keeping plants too wet or too dry, they'll be fine. When watering roses, whether by hand or with an irrigation system, avoid wetting the foliage, which encourages leaf spot diseases and powdery mildew.
Spacing: 3 feet, minimum
Fertilizing: Roses benefit from high levels of nutrients, increasing flowering as a result. We recommend a granular rose fertilizer applied in early spring, just as the ground begins to thaw. If you wish, you can make additional applications in late spring and early summer, but do not fertilize after mid/late July.
Winterizing: In both warm and cold climates, a 2-3" layer of mulch is recommended year-round, especially in winter. In cold climates, wait until spring to prune; warmer areas may prune in autumn if desired.
Maintenance & pruning: We do recommend yearly pruning of roses, as this encourages thick, vigorous growth and the best flower coverage. Aim to cut back to just above a large, vigorous bud. The bigger the bud you cut back to, the thicker and more vigorous the growth will be. Remove any spindly stems entirely. If roses show signs of leaf spot, remove affected portions. Most roses we offer do not require deadheading, but you may do so if you wish.

So far so good.

I was a little disappointed when the blossoms on my plant were fading, but now that there is new growth the color is beautiful. I still have my plant in a pot on my deck but plan to transfer it to my garden in the fall. Should I cut the plant back when I do the transfer?
Thank,you,
Carolyn DuEst

Hello! The best time to prune roses is early spring, just as the new leaves start to emerge. At this time you can remove any dead branches. You can remove a few branches to open it up if necessary. For the rest of the plant, cut it back by 1/3 in height. Make your cuts just above large, healthy buds for the best growth. We have a Q&A blog about roses that you might find helpful here: https://blog.greatgardenplants.com/questions-answered-series-roses-rosa/

A little disappointed

I ordered 13 roses. Every plant had just been transplanted from a much smaller pot into a one-quart pot. Roses looked ok but have very immature root systems. The roses appeared to be move into larger pots the day the roses were packaged for shipment. The outline of the smaller pot was clearly visible and still intact. Also, whoever transplanted the roses didn't even completely fill the one-quart pot with garden soil.

Hello! Thank you for leaving feedback. We apologize you received your plants not up to our standards. Please email pictures of the plant to claims@greatgardenplants.com, making sure to put your order number and name in the subject line so that we may provide the best assistance possible. While we do ship young plants, our growers only release plants for shipment with well established root systems. If you received plants that were not well established we'd be happy to refund or replace your order. Happy Gardening!

Great little rose bush!

Arrived quickly in good shape and has done great. Started blooming right away and hasn’t stopped, and is slowly getting bigger. All I’ve done is keep it watered. No problems; just what I wanted, and I’m very pleased!
