Description
Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:
Unless you are planting in a straight line, as you might for hedges or edging, space your plants in a staggered or zig-zag pattern for a more interesting and naturalistic look:

All 3 of the hydrangeas I bought died within a week of planting them. I followed the directions to a tee but it didn't matter.
Can u replace the 2 plants?
First of all, I had asked that my plant not ship until June 13th as we were on the east coast until then. My plant shipped early and was on my front steps 2 days before we got home. I watered it and left it inside for a couple of days. Then I put it out on the north side of my house in shade to acclimate. We experienced terrible wind so I had to trim some dried up branches. Then I planted it in my garden and placed a coffee can around it so when I watered it, the water wouldn’t all run away. The next time I watered it, it looked tough so I trimmed it back to more robust part. I just checked it now and it is crisp. I’ve been a master gardener for 30 years and have never lost a plant this fast. It just got a big drink to see if the roots are ok. Help!
