Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:
Unless you are planting in a straight line, as you might for hedges or edging, space your plants in a staggered or zig-zag pattern for a more interesting and naturalistic look:

Very happy with the Russian Sage delivery. Plants are in the ground and doing well. They smell good too.
Some plants did ok. And others just flay out died. Probably will stick to buying in person.

The plants arrived in excellent condition and are growing well. Love Great Garden Plants.
These are very tough plants! I placed my original order for 12 Russian Sage plants on 05/07 and received them 05/16. They came well packaged however, I did not like the staples in the plastic, I had to open each one with scissors and it was quite time consuming. The plants looked a little beat up from travel, but I was eager to get them in the ground and planted them right away and watered thoroughly. By 05/21 they were all completely brown and looked dead. I sent GGP photos of the plants and they honored their claim process and sent me 12 more plants that I received on 05/24, very fast shipping the second time around! The 12 new Russian Sage plants looked about the same as the last batch, slightly beat up during their travel. I actually left all of the "dead" plants in the ground and just planted the new plants right next to them. I live in the high desert and over the past 6 weeks have received freezing nights, windstorms and 100 degree heat waves. It is now July 1st and all but two of the 24 plants have survived! The little brown sticks that I believed to be dead have bright green new growth! I couldn't believe it! I live in Central Oregon, our zip code always says we are in hardiness zone of 6b, that is not accurate in my opinion and would say we are like a zone 5a with inter-mountain west tough terrain. Our days and nights can fluctuate more than 50 degrees. I am VERY IMPRESSED with GGP and these Russian Sage plants and highly recommend! The plants are small now but I am hoping they follow the old garden adage "First year sleep, second year creep, third year leap".
I would like to say that your employees take great care in packing each and every plant. EVERY plant arrived to me in Texas in absolutely perfect condition!!
