Plant Spacing

Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:

Description Stay Classy® cherry is a new, improved purple leaf sand cherry from Proven Winners ColorChoice Shrubs with increased disease resistance, drought tolerance, and tidiness! Dainty white flowers appear on this shrub during early spring, but the stunning deep rosy-purple color of the foliage is the real star of the show, which holds its color well into fall. This sand cherry is also a compact shrub that looks excellent contrasting against larger shrubs in low hedges and borders. Grow this shrub in any sunny area with well-drained soil high in clay, and you should be virtually maintenance-free.

Purple leaf sand cherry (Prunus x cisterna) is a hardy landscaping shrub that is exceptionally cold-tolerant and can grow successfully down to growing zone 2. Its signature reddish-purple-toned foliage lasts through the summer into early fall. It is often used in residential landscaping to add a pop of deep color or as a specimen plant.
