Plant Spacing

Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:

Description Pollinators will feel like a kid in a candy shop after seeing Sugar Buzz® 'Berry Taffy' bee balm (or Monarda) flowers in your garden! Their hot pink flowers are hard to miss, drawing in scores of bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Its tidy and compact habit is a delightful addition to mixed beds, patio containers, and pollinator gardens.

We wanted to carry Sugar Buzz® 'Berry Taffy' for one distinct feature: its deep green and purple foliage. The leaves are the perfect backdrop for the hot pink foliage in summer, but after the flowers fade, the foliage keeps its appeal until dormancy. This bee balm is resistant to powdery mildew, unbothered by deer, naturally tidy, and easy to grow! Details Botanical name: Monarda 'Berry Taffy'

 How To Grow Soil: Easily grown in any soil; readily tolerates wet soils. Soil pH not crucial.
Light: Full sun (6+ hours sun) to partial sun (4-6 hours sun). Full sun is recommended for best flowering.
Water: Average to abundant, depending on weather. Established plants can tolerate dry conditions.
Spacing: Space at least 18 - 24″ from other plants; good air circulation encourages healthy, vigorous growth.
Fertilizing: Little needed. If desired, apply a granular garden fertilizer in early spring, just as the soil begins to thaw.
Winterizing: No special care needed. Any old stems that persist after winter can be cut back in spring.
