Plant Spacing

Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:

Description Variegatus maiden grass (Miscanthus sinensis) effortlessly brightens the landscape with striking variegation. Bold, white stripes highlight the green leaves, creating a refreshing contrast.  Silvery plumes shimmer above the foliage in the fall, continually providing texture and color throughout dull winters. This grass provides interest year-round and is ideal for creating a light, colorful hedge. It requires little maintenance and is unbothered by heat, drought, and deer, making it easy to grow!  However, if high winds or heavy storms come your way, it may need a little extra support with stakes. Winterizing: Leave foliage standing throughout winter for visual interest. Substantial clumps tend to flop (or collapse when subjected to heavy winter snows) and often benefit from some support.
Maintenance & pruning: Cut foliage to a 6 to 12-inch-tall mound of stubble in late winter before new shoots appear. Mature clumps of ‘Variegatus (3-4 years +) produce substantial foliage, which sometimes needs support. Older clumps tend to die in the center leading to an unattractive shape and appearance. Dividing every third year is a safe rule of thumb.

'Variegatus' Maiden Grass

Grows quickly, beautiful plant

We've had this plant for around a month now (planted in Colorado, in May) and it's developed quickly since then.

I always expect newly potted / planted plants to take at least 6 months to a year to begin developing new shoots / branches but this plant beat those expectations. Within a few weeks I was seeing new shoots coming up from the ground AND it gained 3". After about a month now it's gained another inch and developed around 4 new shoots. I'm very happy with this plant!

Fits in

Love it! Live in wooded area & let lawn/grass grow without cutting it so it's kinna field like. The variegated grass, is a nice contrast of color at the edges (perimeter) of my natural look.
